On 04-05 October, SOFWERX in collaboration with PEO-RW, US Army Special Operations Aviation Command’s (USASOAC’s), Aviation Maintenance Support Office (AMSO), and the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment-Airborne (160th SOAR-A) is hosting a Capability Assessment Event (CAE) to address Aviation Maintenance Modernization.
To be considered for the event, you must submit your technology for review by 30 August. The Government will subsequently review the submissions and downselect specific capabilities of interest. SOFWERX will then notify those selected companies on or about 14 September. Those selected companies must RSVP by 21 September to attend the Aviation Modernization Capability Assessment Event on 04-05 October.
Current government aviation maintenance practices make use of either paper manuals or digitized paper manuals on laptops, often requiring print-out of task-specific instructions and diagrams to take to the aircraft. Modern private industry aviation trends apply virtual /augmented/mixed reality and on-demand video technology to the aviation maintenance process.
Technology Focus Areas
The purpose of the event is to identify capabilities such as:
- Visual depiction of data/energy flow (“tracing wires”) and mechanical operations
- “Manipulatable” 3D images and diagrams of components and/or systems
- Use of virtual/augmented/mixed reality/video tools to enhance the maintainer’s understanding of maintenance procedures
- Aids to trouble-shooting
- Automated video capture of critical task performance for quality control purposes
The government may select none, one, or some promising technologies for further assessments after the event through SOFWERX or other government channels based on the maturity level and potential interoperability with current platforms and systems.
