The U.S. Navy’s (USN’s) top admiral aims to avoid the development issues that have afflicted the long-troubled Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) of the Service while preparing an ambitious new fleet of hundreds of unmanned vehicles. According to the article, as opposed to the unproven gear that was slapped on the LCS, leading to years of failures, the USN is looking to chart a course that specifically spells out what kind of capabilities the ships should have, how much commonality different designs will feature, and ensuring trust in tested technologies.
