Fire Control System & Technology Directorate at the U.S. Armament Research

RALPH TILLINGHAST, a subject matter expert in digitized fire control, is the science and technology advisor for the Fire Control System & Technology Directorate at the U.S. Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC) and the director of the Collaboration Innovation Laboratory. He began his career outside the DoD designing and developing medical and industrial endoscopic devices. He started working in Mortar Fire Control Systems at ARDEC in 2003. During this time, he held various roles as design engineer, lead system engineer, project lead, and Army Project Officer. As an adjunct professor for the Armaments Graduate School, he currently instructs a class on fire control and is a strong advocate for STEM outreach, visiting schools monthly. Mr. Tillinghast holds undergraduate degrees in electrical and mechanical engineering and a master’s degree in manufacturing engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in system engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology.
