This MaterialEASE provides a look at some of the most pressing considerations ship designers face when choosing materials for current and future Navy ships. While not all the issues unique to shipbuilding are covered in this article, a "first tier" of considerations pertaining to materials that any ship designer will have is addressed. The information is compiled such that the lay person can gain a basic appreciation for some of the most important materials issues in shipbuilding.
