The Army is developing cutting edge sensor and aiming technologies that will make it easier for U.S. soldiers to find and target their enemies.

The new capability, which officials are calling “rapid target acquisition” or RTA, combines the Enhanced Night Vision Goggle III and the Family of Weapon Sights-Individual.

“We did take two separate programs of record, two disparate programs, two disparate systems right here and we brought them together to be interoperable,” said Lt. Col. Timothy Fuller, product manager of solder maneuver sensors, during a July 22 media briefing at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.

The ENVG III is more sophisticated than earlier variants, with improved thermal capability and reduced size.
