Colonel Richard J. Edwards is the Strategy, Plans and Policy Director on the Joint Improvised-Threat Defeat Agency's (JIDA's) coordinating staff, also known as the J5. Through the  Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics, JIDA's J5 provides subject matter expertise and planning assistance to the U.S. Government interagency and its members on matters involving national measures to respond to the IED threat and trans-national threat networks that employ improvised weapons.

JIDA is of course the new name for JIEDDO (Joint IED Defeat Organization) with the remit to examine current and future threats. Defence IQ interviewed Col Edwards to understand more about JIDA and to get an insight into the US’s future C-IED and other improvised threat strategies…
