This state-of-the-art report (SOAR) summarizes current principles and technologies of underbody blast (UBB) protection for ground combat vehicles. The UBB environment is described along with a brief overview of the recent history of UBB protection. This report also includes an overview of the means by which UBB protection technologies are assessed, namely through injury predictions as derived from testing or modeling and simulation. The content of this report has been drawn from the vast experience of numerous Department of Defense engineers and scientists embedded in efforts to develop and analyze UBB protection technologies as well as a wealth of published reports by Government agencies, universities, and industry.
