How is EPDM rocket motor insulation processed and integrated into rocket motors? How are Kevlar reinforcements used in solid rocket motor insulation? What are the key parameters and metrics used to evaluate elastomeric internal insulation materials?

An inquirer wanted to better understand and characterize current rocket motor insulation, the development process, and integration methods to help in the process of developing a new material for State of the Art (SOTA) EPDM rocket motor insulation. DSIAC researched the process and materials using the Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC) and open-source documents to develop a response report that was delivered to the inquirer.
