What organizations are engaged in vital sign monitoring systems for unmanned aircraft systems?

DSIAC was asked to search for organizations that were researching vital sign monitoring systems for unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The system should consist of a radar sensor with novel algorithms for recognition and monitoring life signs, including heart and respiration rates, from a moving platform. DSIAC staff searched open-source documents and the Defense Technical Information Center’s (DTIC) repository for organizations involved with this research. A variety of research methods to remotely detect and monitor vital signs was found. These methods include light detection and ranging (LiDAR) mapping, sensors for search and rescue, and infrared thermography. While some of these methods are being researched for use with UAS/UAVs, others have the potential to be applied to UAV platforms for future use. Organizations involved in this research from academia, industry, and government were compiled and delivered to the inquirer.
